The Pirogue Grill is our regular place for dinner when we pass through Bismarck every year or so. It’s quiet and elegant, and the wait staff know their stuff. We were both in the mood for seafood tonight, so we had the Markham Chardonnay. Caroline started with the beet and goat cheese appetizer because it’s one of her favorites. I opted to begin with the potato gnocchi with rabbit confit. I wanted to start with a hot course because I was hungry, and it was very satisfying. For the main course, C chose the rockfish special, served with a smoky tomato and caper salsa and paired it with the barley pilaf, a tasty side that I’ve enjoyed before. I picked the walleye in a parmesan and regianno crust from the menu and selected the carmelized onion mashed potato. Both of us had the vegetable medley of the day, which included chopped green and yellow zucchini, green beans and carrots. Caroline contemplated dessert, but declined. We’ll be back in two weeks on the return leg – maybe then.
